Downers Grove Area Fish was founded in 1969 by Buzz and CharlotteEmerson as an all-volunteer charitable organization. Originally
housed in a church basement, Downers Grove Township has provided space for FISH for over 30 years.
Threatened by the Romans, early Christians used the Fish symbol to identify safe meeting places and to identify friends from foes. We offer a safe place where friends help those threatened by hunger and poverty.
We are dedicated to helping improve the quality of life for our most needy citizens.
Our goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment in which to serve our clients and volunteers.
FISH renders our services to all persons in the communities we serve regardless of race, creed or economic status with dignity and respect.
Downers Grove Area FISH is a faith-based all volunteer not for profit organization which serves people in need in Downers Grove, Lisle and Westmont with a food pantry, clothes closet, emergency rent and car repair assistance. Our volunteers also provide rides to those who have no transportation to medical appointments in the area. In addition residents of Woodridge and Darien are eligible for emergency rent and car repair, as well as medical appointment rides.
